Details of Event
When engaged as a lasher-on in a brow dipping one in eight, a lashing chain attaching two full tubs of dirt to the endless rope, broke, and the tubs running back down-brow, broke the lashing chain of the two following tubs, with the result that Downham got killed by the tubs before he could enter the level, near which he was occupied. The manholes were Six to eight yards apart.
