- Fife Colliery Fatalities - Inquiry was also held into the circumstances attending the death of Thomas Melville Dowie, waggon shunter, 4 Eleventh Street, Cardenden, who was killed while shunting waggons at Kinglassie Colliery. John Millar, manager of the colliery, suggested that after running some waggons down a hill, Dowie was passing between the first seven and the last one, and got caught. The rails were in a slippery condition. It might have been deceased slipped in front of the waggons. A formal verdict was returned. [Dunfermline Journal 30 March 1929]
