A perpendicular hole was bored in the rock to a depth of 2ft. 6in. charged with 1.5lb. of gunpowder. Deceased lighted the fuse but it missed fire and after waiting about 30 minutes he returned with another workman and they began to unram the shot with a steel drill when the charge exploded.
