- Details of Event
- When filling a tub about 15 feet from the quarry face between four and five tons of clay and shale fell from the face and caught him. He was knocked down and so injured by the blow that he died about two hours afterwards. The fall extended along the face for a distance of 15 feet to a depth of 8 feet from the surface of the quarry, which was 33 feet in depth and was 6 inches thick. It appears to have come away to a crack, developed by dry weather and subsequent rain during the night previous to the accident.
