- Died September 1st. Deceased brought into the mine some loose gunpowder in a bag and was in the act of transferring it to his tin bottle when a spark from his candle ignited it. The Jury at the inquest added the following rider to their verdict of accidental death ‘The Jury urge that powder should not be taken into the drift otherwise than as provided by statute and that cartridges should only be made in a proper place outside the drift provided for the purpose.’
