- Details of Event
- Died May 15. On May 5 deceased was working in the Main band, William pit, and he said something to another miner about having slipped on the flat sheets at the entrance to his place. As he went home, after finishing his shift, he saw a doctor, who examined him in the open air and told him he had influenza and was unfit for work. He laid up until May 15, when he went back to work, but had just taken his coat off when he complained of feeling very unwell, and shortly afterwards fainted and died. An inquest was opened and adjourned for a post-mortem examination, which showed that death was due to heart disease following pneumonia.
