- 25 December 1916: Fatal Mining Accident At Westcraigs – A mining accident, involving the death of one man and serious injury to another, was reported yesterday from Harthill. William Hogg Dickson (50), brushing contractor, and John Templeton (40) shaftsman, both residing at Westrigg near Westcraigs, were at work in an aircourse of Westrigg Colliery, belonging to the United Collieries, when they were buried in a fall of about 5 tons from the roof. Dickson was instantaneously killed and Templeton was conveyed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary suffering from fractured thigh and other injuries. [Scotsman 26 December 1916]
