- Details of Event
- He was engaged in widening a road for a pass-bye by taking 2 or 3 feet of bind from one side when, it is supposed, some bind fell from the roof at the side over the widened part of the road and displaced a bar or bars. This loosened others, so that five bars fell, letting down a large quantity of loose dirt which had been resting on covering timber over the bars. Deceased was completely buried, and his assistant had a narrow escape. The roof was of a dry, crumbly nature. The place was closely timbered, but it is probable that a space had been left between the timber and the recently exposed roof at the side. This should have been filled in with packing.
