- 15 February 1915: Shotts – Serious Scalding Accident – A serious accident took place on Monday morning at Fortrigg Pit, belonging to Baton Collieries Ltd, whereby three workmen got seriously scalded. While Walter Knox (manager), Alexander Brown, and George Denholm were engaged at work in connection with the washing machine a steam pipe burst, and before the unfortunate men could escape they were enveloped in steam and hot water. Denholm's injuries were of such a serious nature he was removed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. [Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser 20 February 1915]
