Roof fall. A 25 year old Coal Stripper of Dutch extraction, Peter Den Kaat, 64 Fourth Block, Fallin, was killed by a roof fall in Polmaise Colliery shortly after 9.00 on Friday afternoon (13 May 1949). Den Kaat was crushed and killed instantaneously by a five ton stone. (Stirling Journal).
