9 July 1914: Yesterday afternoon, at Grasshill Pit, Glenbuck, belonging to Messrs William Baird & Co (Limited), a serious accident befell James Dempster, a miner, residing at Madeleine Place, Muirkirk. While at his work a large fall of coal took place. He was caught in the fall, and was seriously injured on the spine, as well as internal injuries.[Scotsman 10 July 1914]
