- Deceased and another hewer were working together in a longwall face in the Low Main seam, 3 feet 10 ins thick and at 3.30 pm. or nearly at the end of their shift while deceased was filling a tub a mass of coal 13 feet long and 2 feet thick at the top tapering out at the bottom fell off the face opposite the road head and struck him rendering him unconscious and he died the same evening. The coal overhung slightly but was not stayed. The parting at the top is slippery there was a slight appearance of at the point from which the coal fell. The deputy had visited the place at 1 p.m. and there was a good supply of timber. The Local Inspectors reported that in their opinion it was accident.
