The roof in this place required extra care owing to the proximity of old workings and the fireman warned the men about it. The collier in charge went to fetch a bar to set to the roof in advance of the foreset but during his absence deceased drew the foreset and a large stone fell from between two slips and killed him. His action was unaccountable as being a long experienced collier he should have known the risk attending the drawing of a foreset before further timber had been set.
