Died July 12. About nine miles from the colliery on a private railway to the Tyne a train of 35 loaded wagons standing in a siding. Deceased who had been a shunter on the North Eastern Railway was riding about 11pm. on the buffers of the leading wagon to be ready to couple it up and when nearly in position for doing so and while the train was moving slowly he appears to have got down and got his foot caught between the outer rail and the inside cheek of the rail at the crossing and six wagons passed over his leg.
