- Details of Event
- The accident happened on a level road in the Cockshead seam. Deceased had proceeded outbye with a set of five loads attached to his horse. He was riding on the front end of the first tub as usual. A few minutes later, deceased was found beneath the set, between the first and second loads which were standing on end. The horse's tail chain was around his body and still attached to the set, and the horse was standing at the front of the set. The first tub had evidently passed over deceased. There was no witness of the accident, but it is probable that deceased was travelling at considerable speed and that, while in the act of uncoupling the tail chain near the end of the journey, he overbalanced and fell in front of the tubs.
