- Runaway hutch. Two Fallin Miners were fatally injured in an accident which occurred in No 4 Pit, Polmaise Colliery, Fallin early on Friday evening (15 January 1943). The men concerned were Alexander Rennie (71), Colliery Fireman and Pumpman, 12 A Block, Fallin and James Dawson (52), Colliery Roadman, 12 Woodside Place, Fallin, both of whom were working on an incline on the main haulage road, when they were struck by a runaway hutch loaded with wood. Rennie suffered severe head injuries and he died in Stirling Royal Infirmary on Saturday morning. Dawson suffered from a fracture of the left leg and also died in the Infirmary on Sunday.
