He was ascending the shaft in the cage when the engineman winding failed, through a mistake, to stop the cage, until it struck the bell cylinder in the head gear; when the capping gave way, and the deceased fell to the bottom of the shaft, a distance of 200 yards, and was killed This accident occurred On a Sunday morning, the engineman having been on duty 17 hours.
