He was taking side off in a roadway and was filling a tub when further coal, about 5cwts, and an 8-inch seam of stone above it came away to a smooth roof parting and to the cleat at the coal face and fell upon him. The coal appeared to have been overhanging. He was so severely injured that he died on 14/06/1913.
