He was engaged with a ripper in removing dirt from a ripping shot. As he was walking across the gate end a piece of roof 13 feet 6 inches by 4 feet 6 inches by 10 inches fell and killed him. Although the timber at the gate-end was not set in accordance with the rules a deputy, who visited the place three times, did not order further timber to be set. Bars would probably have prevented the accident.
