- 5 January 1940: Uddingston Man Killed in Colliery Accident – Hugh Davis (61), residing at Greenriggs Street, Uddingston, was killed last night while at work in the Blantyre Ferme No.2 Colliery, owned by Messrs A. G. Moore and Co. Ltd. David was employed as a surfaceman, and it is believed that he became caught in the washing machinery at the pit. [Glasgow Herald 6 January 1940]
Uddingston – Pit Fatality – Mr Hugh Davis (61) 27 Greenrigg Street, Uddingston, was killed on Friday night while at work in Blantyre Ferme No 2 Colliery, owned by Messrs A. G. Moore Ltd. Mr Davis was employed as a surfaceman and it is believed that he became caught in the shaft of the washing machinery at the pit. He leaves a wife and grown-up family.
