Deceased was making a cutting at the foot of a vertical face in the quarry. A large block of stone was about to be raised from the bottom of the quarry by a steam jib crane on bank. He was warned to get out of the way, and did so, but as the stone neared the top he returned to his former position. The jib was swung round prematurely, causing the stone to come in contact with the face just below the top, and a portion weighing about 2 cwts. broke off and fell upon him, killing him instantly.
