- Details of Event
- This accident was caused by the lashing of a haulage rope on the double parting near the pit bottom. It appears that an empty journey was being drawn along the Red Coal haulage road by the tail rope. The journey got off the road and the main rope ran out until it lay slack on the floor near the side of the double parting. Deceased was standing near the rope when the journey was restarted. The main rope suddenly tightened, whipped upwards, and struck deceased on the back of his head seriously injuring it and rendering him unconscious. He died six days later.
