- A journey, consisting of eight full and two empty trams, was being drawn up out of a heading on to the main dip when the rope broke, the trams ran back and killed deceased, who was standing at the mouth of the heading. The rope, 3-4inch diameter, made of plough steel, and having a breaking strain of 23ton had only been at work for 6 months. The strain on the rope was less than 3tons at the time it broke.
