- Deceased was filling some slack out of a new opening 6 feet wide, which bad been broken off the side of a main gateway. The opening had been driven in the coal for a distance of 7 feet 6 inches, and a holing prop set under the clod at the mouth of the opening. A piece of clod 5 feet long, 9 inches broad, and 12 inches thick suddenly came away from the lip of the opening, reeled out the holing prop, struck deceased on the side of the head and broke his neck.
