Deceased, a granary labourer, had been engaged in hoisting, with an electric crane, trusses of hay to the upper floor of a three storied building. After emptying the wagon, he went down the stairs to the first floor for the purpose of fetching a rope sling. He walked over the trusses of hatch-way to the hatch and, in throwing the sling on to the hooks of the main crane rope as it passed through the opening, overbalanced and full through on to the buffers of the wagon standing beneath. The hatch-ways were fenced to a height of 2ft 7ins. but the hay had been piled level with the top of the fencing.
