- Deceased worked in a heading cutting faces in the Nine feet seam, in which clod and top coal are ripped to make height. It was said that the rippings projected about 2 feet from the face of the coal and were supported by two posts. Outside the rippings, and close to them, was a pair of timber. As deceased was at work at the face, a piece of coal and shale, and said to have weighed about 2 cwts, fell from between two slips, discharged one of the two posts at the road end, and inflicted injuries, considered slight at the time, but which resulted in his death on January 23rd.
