Deceased with six other workers was returning along the main haulage hill to the shaft, when an empty tub which had got beyond the control of two men on a gradient of 1 in 6.5 struck him as he was entering a refuge hole. He was not thought to be hurt much at the time, but died from internal haemorrhage and shock two days afterwards.
