- Details of Event
- When working in the quarry alone he, was trying by means of a winch and rope to pull out a prop set to support the roof of a chamber cut out of the solid rock. After several attempts he went into the chamber, and whilst there the roof over the whole area of the chamber , some 18 feet by 15 feet, fell, and he was killed. His son had by chance gone into the quarry to speak to him on a private matter and witnessed the whole of the operations in regard to the removal of the prop: there was thus no room for doubt as to what he had been doing when he met his death.
