- Details of Event
- While David was getting off a carriage upon which he and others had been riding down the slant, he used a power cable as a handrail to assist him to alight. He received a shock from which he failed to recover, although artificial respiration was resorted to until a doctor arrived. David Thomas, who proceeded to walk down the slant after Owen David had been taken to the surface, was found lying dead on the main slant, a considerable distance higher up than the place where Owen David received a shock. The doctor certified that both men died from electrocution. The armouring of the cable seems to have been alive for a considerable time, due to an injury to the cable by runaway trams, and also to inefficient earthing. 2 killed.
