- Details of Event
- The deceased men were assisting the loader with an empty tub at the turn-up 7 yards back from the face of a gate road 6 feet wide, the loader being at the outbye end of the tub and they at the other, when three settings suddenly reeled out and a huge fall of coal and dirt occurred. The loader escaped, but both the pikemen were buried, and were dead when extricated. A slip parallel with the road and running up over the timber was revealed after the fall, and this, with the fact of the floor being rather soft, doubtless was the cause of the fall. The road was well timbered, and before the accident appeared to be perfectly safe. 2 killed.
