- Details of Event
- Deceased and two others were working on the main dip haulage road, repairing and cleaning up, when a heavy fall of rock from the side occurred it broke on a tub into which they were shovelling, and a piece struck deceased on the head, fracturing his skull. The fall was 13 ft. long, 4 ft. 9 ins. high, and tapered from nothing to 16 ins. in thickness it was overhanging in the form of an arch, but three stretchers were set to it. These were reeled out by the fall. A new rock road was being driven to dispense with this dip haulage road, and it had recently crossed this road, about 10 yards beneath it, at the point of the accident. The accident was probably due to this.
