- Details of Event
- Deceased had charged three shot three shot-holes, two in the main face and one in a stone adhering to the floor. The holes were charged with compressed gunpowder, to be fired by means of taped fuse. Deceased lighted the fuse of the shot in the stone and retired to a safe place. On hearing the report of the shot he immediately went back to the place to light the other fuses. Just as he reached the face, however, the other two shots went off, killing him instantly. The two shots may have been fired by flame from the first one or the men may have lighted the whole three, and owing to two of them hanging for a short time, concluded that their fuses had not caught. The accident shows the danger of charging several shot holes at one time.
