- Died March 4th. About a month before his death deceased, while somewhat under the influence of liquor, stumbled while getting out of bed and fractured a rib on the left side and was off work in consequence 23 days. After being certified by the doctor as fit he started work again and on the second day left earlier than usual and told his son whom he met on his way outbye he had hurt his shoulder by making a false blow with the pick but he did not mention this to the deputy whom he met as he was going outbye. The same doctor attended him again and found that his left shoulder was injured and probably the collar broken. Blood poisoning set in and he died from it. According to the evidence of the doctor at the inquest the cause of death was blood poisoning following an injury received in the pit and so the Jury found.
