- Details of Event
- Along with another man he was engaged in raising a bar cell cutter a sufficient height to enable them to remove the "jacks" with which the machine was fitted for elevating or depressing the cutter bar. When the machine had been raised about 12 inches, a stone 8 inches thick and 9 feet long fell from the roof close along by the coal face and crushed his head on to the top of the machine. The stone fell away at a thin gravel parting with coal pipes and was said to have been examined and sounded good.
