- 15 February 1941: Ayrshire Pit Explosion - Manager and Under-Manager Dead - As a result of an explosion in Bank No.6 mine, New Cumnock, on Saturday, Charles Hynd, manager, residing at Seaforth, and William Crombie, under-manager, residing at Glenpark, lost their lives. A fireman, John Orr, residing at Burnside, sustained severe injuries, and was conveyed to Kilmarnock Infirmary. Other workers in the section escaped with minor injuries. [Scotsman 17 February 1941]
