He was employed in a "fast" place in faulted ground with his father. After a shot had been fired the father tested it the face for gas and found none. He and his boy went in to work with naked lights, and ignited gas close to the end of brattice, 30 feet from the face itself. Both were burned, the boy so severely that he died next day.
