- Details of Event
- While deceased was walking home with his dog between 11 and 12 p.m. on a moonlight night along the colliery company‘s private railway a locomotive engine going tender first and drawing 24 loaded wagons ran over both him and his dog. He was caught near switches where his legs were found his body having been trailed some hundreds of yards by the locomotive. Although notice boards are fixed up forbidding persons to walk along the railway it is regularly used by miners and others. Early in the same day one of deceased's mates had been killed by falling down a sinking pit and deceased had helped to recover the body had it not been for this fatality he would have been at work.
