- Details of Event
- In the longwall in the Brockwell seam where the roof is post a bottom caunch is usually shot in and the roof not disturbed. A fall of roof had taken place near the face in a gateway and men were sent to clear it away and after doing so fired a saxonite shot the roof within 8 feet of the face. Deceased was present before the shot was fired and retired with the other while it was being fired and returned first to see its effect. As he approached the face some stone fell partly from the roof and partly from the left side and he was fastened. He was nearly got out when a second fall took place and he was not liberated until 1.5 hours when he was dead. There were appearances of false bedding in the stone. The Local Inspectors reported, ‘we are satisfied it was a pure accident - no blame on the part of anyone.'
