- 8 July 1916: Larkhall – Fatal Accident – On Saturday afternoon, John Craw, aged 14 years and 11 months, who resided with his parents at 5 Hamilton Street, met with an accident at Dykehead Colliery, which proved fatal. The lad, who was employed at the surface of the pit, was caught in the creeper chain, and received severe lacerated wounds to the hips. He also suffered from shock. He was attended to by Dr M'Nay and afterwards removed to the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, where he died as a result of his injuries about 7 o'clock in the evening. The lad had only started at the colliery on the Monday previous. [Hamilton Advertiser 15 July 1916]
