- Details of Event
- The deceased men were digging sand in a large hole or trench at the foot of a face of sand 80 feet high, when a huge fall of marl and sand, 25 feet long by 4 feet thick at top, tapering to nothing, by 10 feet to 12 feet deep, came from the top of the face and buried them, both men being suffocated before they could be extricated. The fall was probably due to the effect of recent heavy rains, but it was not a wise arrangement to have men working in a deep hole so near a face of his kind, from which they had little chance of escape from a sudden fall. 2 killed.
