20 January 1925: Fatal Accident In Aitken Pit – Fall of Coal Strikes Miner – On Tuesday night while John Cowan 149 Waverley Cottages Lochore was at his usual employment in Aitken Pit, Kelty, he received fatal injuries from a fall from the roof. Cowan's head was terribly bruised. He leaves a widow and two children, for whom much sympathy is felt. [Dunfermline Journal 24 January 1925]
