Deceased and another lad went into an abandoned stall and with their candles ignited some gas which burned them both deceased so badly that he died in three days. Deceased had worked in the stall before it was abandoned and it was thought that he took the other lad up to show him the thickness of the seam. The fireman said that he examined the place a little over three hours before the accident, and found it clear of gas. Naked lights were used. No.1 Rhondda seam.
