- Details of Event
- Deceased was employed at the bottom of a jig in the Hard Mine seam. He had just sent away a tub from the bottom of the jig, when a large slab of rock 18 feet long by 6 feet wide and 9 inches thick, suddenly fell from the roof, knocked of down, and partially buried him. He was quickly extricated, but he died half an hour after. The roof was considered to be strong and was therefore not timbered. After the fall a slip was exposed by the sound of a goth. Instructions were subsequently given that all similar landings must be timbered in future.
