- Details of Event
- Cooper was killed by a tall of roof whilst holing in the Top Coal seam. He was at work in a piece of coal between two downthrow faults 4ft. apart. The second formed the end of the stall and the first threw out about half the coal, and he was working in the upper part of the seam with the rock over it. A portion of the rock slipped down the face of the first fault, and came away from the main body of the roof by a peculiarly shaped slip or joint like a quarter of a hemisphere. A sprag was set to it and was partly reeled by the fall.
