- Details of Event
- This accident occurred in an opening in thick coal pickings, where the strata are much crushed and broken. Four posts had been drawn in the bolt hole in order to drop some slipper coal, but as it did not come down a hole was drilled for a shot. Preparatory to firing it, deceased was drawing another post, and with a view to this, was relieving the lid with a pick. A large fall of coal suddenly took place and killed him. The place was well timbered but if the props had been drawn by a ringer and chain deceased might have been in a safer place.
