- Fall of roof in a heading where he was engaged repairing and enlarging the road. Having set a pair of timber to secure the roof, he was engaged cutting out an old one when it gave way and caused a stone to fall which brought further rubbish with it and covered him completely, breaking his back and neck. It is a case of error of judgement on his part, but it is desirable that repairers should use the "gablock and chain" or other machines of the kind for drawing out these old props (see special Rule, No.84). This is at least the second case this year in which the block and chain (Sylvester's Prop Drawer) would have saved life had it been used.
