- Fall of side at face while he was loosening a sprag set against a face slip of coal, the whole of the coal took to crush out and a prop in the side was knocked out. The prop struck him so violently on the head that he died in six hours time without regaining consciousness. The coal seam was 7 ft in thickness, and the face was worked nearly parallel with the slips. Six feet seam. Safety lamps.
