- 30 August 1930: Colliery Worker's Death - A distressing accident took place on Saturday at Gateside Colliery, Cambuslang. William Arbuckle, 32 Graham's Buildings, Halfway, Cambuslang, was suffocated in a coal gum dump. Arbuckle was engaged alone working at the coal gum when he was missed by a fellow workman, who raised the alarm. A squad of men were despatched to the spot, and the work of search and rescue proceeded with all speed, but it was half an hour before Arbuckle's body was found. It was found that the man was dead. He was 27 years of age and was the sole support of his widowed mother. [Glasgow Herald September 1 1930]
