- Details of Event
- The pit was not working, but the deceased and his mate had gone to drill and fire a shot hole in order to further their work. Stemming is provided by the owners in the form of bricks which the men should take in with them. He had however, forgotten to take any with him, and went to find some in the other parts of the pits, and, in doing so, came to a fence across a place 17 yards from the face; he improperly passed the fence, and ignited a small quantity of gas at the naked light lie was carrying. He was burned about his face, hands, and neck. Died the following day.
