Deceased, who had been in indifferent health for some time, descended the shaft with the master-sinker to give him some instructions. In stepping backward off a beam which crossed the floor of the inset, he stumbled and fell, and received a slight cut on the back of the head. He died on 29th July from heart failure following cirrhosis of the liver, and dropsy. The septicaemia condition of his head was not the cause of death, but accelerated it by reducing his strength.
